CX-3, Why are parking light switch taps and splices called "optional?

0 votes
I installed the Evo one and the Maz 3 harness, and all works fine. I spliced into the light switch, labeled "optional", and the parking lights come on as expected when in auto start. But now I see a connection at A19 of the white connector that seems to duplicate the same parking  light output. So why was the light switch tap and splice  labeled "optional"? Could I have avoided this light switch tap and splice if it's already made at A19? The switch taps and splices are the most difficult part of the install with the Maz3 harness, so what is optional about it?

You don't have to connect the parking lights.  They are used for diagnostic purposes.

I'm not sure I understand your answer.  If I don't connect the parking lot lights by splicing into the light switch, will the parking lot lights still come on during  the remote start time using just the white connectors?
They'll still come on even if you don't splice into them.  If there's an issue with the remote start you'd need to splice into them so the lights can flash the code to you.
Lights won't come on during remote start if they are not connected. They're "optionnal" because this connection will not prevent the remote starter from working.
Guys: You both seem to give me opposite answers. Nick says the lights still come on even if not spliced into, but Mathieu says the lights WON'T come on if they are not connected. To clarify, I used a MAZ3 T harness.  So which answer is correct?
Hi Steve, first off in assuming the CX-5 and CX-3 are similar. I have done installs with and with and without the "optional" parking lights connections (cx5). I ended up going back on the vehicle that I didn't use them and adding the parking light connections. If you want the parking lights to come on when the vehicle is remote started and running you need to make those connections. Its a great indicator that the car is running. Those added connection are pretty easy to add/access. Ahh.. I just re read your post and see the you did in fact make those connects... Its optional since its not a necessity to remote start the vehicle.
